The now long distance Recruiter
A lot of people are talking about the current pandemic caused by the COVID-19 and its impact on businesses and their working methods. In fact, alongside the virus situation, we’re hearing a lot about companies that changed their usual paradigm of in-office work to giving their workers the choice to work from home.
Personally, I’ve never done it so this is quite the change for me. As such, I felt the need to study a bit regarding good home working methods that could diminish the impact I was anticipating to feel (and indeed felt!). However, I bet you’ve already researched as I did, so I won’t bother you with the same “Dos and Dont’s” list. In fact, I’m more interested in how to conduct the recruitment process in the best of fashion with all the obstacles that come with the situation.
Here are some facts that every Recruiter will very likely face (and tips on to solve them too!):
Fact 1: First interviews can be held through video but what about the technical ones?
Don’t worry!
We can also do them remotely by applying code challenges and then scheduling a video call between the candidate and one of our Team Leaders. The idea is to run the code while explaining how they’ve done it. It’s not the same as a face-to-face chat but it works in times like these.
Fact 2: You’re probably thinking you’ll feel a downgrade of interview acceptances since people are afraid of a change right now.
This can happen but at the same time, a lot of people are at home and their availability to answer your messages and talk with you is actually bigger than before. Work with it :)
Fact 3: Onboarding will be held remotely.
This is a truth one simply cannot escape… After delivering the welcome kit you’ll need to guide their work remotely through the platforms your company uses.
Fact 4: It’s a good time to pick up that old work you’ve been trying to organize since the 90s!
We all have that type of more bureaucratic tasks that are constantly being delayed and quieter times like these are perfect to get them done. Try to make a list of all these and speak with your co-workers to see if you’re forgetting anything and how you can divide and conquer.
This is just a tiny list of a lot of changes in day-to-day work of recruitment and the smartest thing to do is to think ahead so when faced with any of these (or others) you already know what to do, or at least have some guidelines of what you can do.
Working from home is a different game that requires a different setup and anticipating your needs can do a lot.
